Bedroom Shaker Shelves

After I painted flowers with stencils in June’s room, it was ready for shelving!

We had made this shelf in both our room and Mabel's room, so June's room was the last to be built. We thought we would document the process and show you how we did it.

We bought two basic 10 inch pine boards, basic wood brackets, and shaker pegs that you just screw into the wall. Easy!

Hanging Wall Brackets

We have this super cool laser level that projects onto the wall so we can make sure the shelf is up straight. This isn’t totally necessary, but it’s super helpful!

Here are a few shelf bracket options that would work, but you can use any bracket you like.

Skyler installed anchors and screws so the bracket can just hook right on.

Next, we measured the space in between each bracket so we can put another piece of wood up for the shaker pegs. We decided to use a smaller piece of wood than we did for the shelf in Mabel’s room. In here with the brackets, it just felt too beefy! So Skyler cut the pieces down on our miter saw to be smaller. Then, we hung them up!

*A friendly tip - paint all of the wood before hanging it. It saves so much work and time!

We measured so the cuts would rest right on the bracket.

Shaker Pegs

We put 4 shaker pegs in between each bracket spaced evenly. These pegs are so easy to install! You make a small hole with a drill and then screw them right into the wood!

Next, I caulked! A note - we definitely should have caulked before putting up the pegs. That made it a bit tricky. But we used this caulking tool and it’s amazing! It makes smoothing out the caulk clean and seamless.

Then lastly, I painted the pegs to match the shelf with Golden Straw.

I’m so happy with how this shelf turned out! I can’t wait to decorate in here 🥹🌼
